Oracle is one of the largest IT companies in the world, ranking 2nd in 2019 in terms of market capitalization and revenue. Some of its well-known product categories are Oracle applications, Oracle Fusion, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Database, and Java.
Oracle is famous for its acquisitions over the years, such as Netsuite, MICROS Systems, Datalogix, Acme Packet, Sun, BEA Systems, among others. Because of this, Oracle license prices tend to vary from time to time.
Cost of Oracle License
Answering the question, “how much does an oracle license cost?” can be quite tricky. Especially if you are not an IT person and are just in charge of sourcing the software, Oracle’s vast array of suites can be very complex.
The Oracle Enterprise Edition costs $47,500, while the Standard Edition costs $17,500. For the comprehensive price list, please see below.
Database
The Oracle database, which is an object-relational database management system, otherwise known as Oracle RDBMS, remains the flagship product. This is despite the extensive expansion of Oracle’s portfolio brought about by its acquisitions over the years.

Additional Costs
Once you purchase one of its products, you may need add-ons to maximize the benefits of Oracle software. One of the most frequently added features is partitioning. And with this, as seen with the pricing above, each of Oracle’s products is priced separately.
If and when you are live in production, expect that your development environments will have to be licensed. These are usually priced at half of your production license under the Named User Licenses.
Factors Affecting Cost of Oracle License
The cost of an Oracle license varies depending on the number of users and your preference, or that of your company.
The two main options that Oracle offers are the Processor metric and the Named User Plus metric. The main difference between the two is that, under the processor metric, there is no limit as to the number of users that can access the programs. On the other hand, under Named User Plus, you are limited to a certain number of users that your license allows.
When your company is constantly expanding, where the number of users can increase significantly at any time, the processor metric seems to be a wiser choice. However, the Named User Plus is more cost-effective when there are a relatively small number of users.
Other types of Oracle licensing are the Unlimited License agreement, Standard Edition Per-socket licensing, Enterprise Edition Per-core licensing, Concurrent Device licenses, Application Specific Full Use Licensing, and Embedded Software License.
