How Much Does Enterprise Car Rental Insurance Cost

For your car rental insurance needs, one highly recommended insurance provider is Enterprise Rent-A-Car. How much does Enterprise car rental insurance cost? Will it be cheaper than obtaining separate car rental insurance from other providers? Let’s find out.

The Cost of Enterprise Car Rental Insurance

Each insurance policy has unique coverage, and the Enterprise car rental insurance cost significantly varies depending on several factors. However, expect to spend around $4 to $17 per day for each type of coverage.

Insurance for car rentals

The company actually offers four types of car rental insurance, and these are the following:

1. Damage Waiver (DW)

Enterprise offers a Damage Waiver (DW) as an additional daily fee on the day you rent a car. If you purchase this policy, the insurance company will reduce “the renter’s responsibility for loss of or damage to” the rented vehicle.

It includes, but is not necessarily limited to, administrative fees, a decrease in value, loss of use, and/or towing. Take note that the vehicle is subject to the rental agreement’s terms and conditions and applicable laws.

However, a Damage Waiver is not exactly a type of insurance per se. Apart from that, you are not required to purchase a DW if you want to rent a car.

It has the highest daily cost among other car rental policies of Enterprise Rent-A-Car at $11.99 to $16.99 per day, depending on your location and the type of vehicle you wish to rent. So it’s good that you are not being forced to get one if you don’t want to.

A word of caution, though: the protection you get from a DW may duplicate the existing coverage on your rented car. As such, Enterprise has no authority to evaluate the prevailing policy of the renter. For that reason, it is the renter’s responsibility to check the coverage.

2. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) and Personal Effects Coverage (PEC)

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) and Personal Effects Coverage (PEC) provide unique benefits to the renters. However, you can avail of them at separate locations.

Personal Accident Insurance, or PAI, is an insurance policy that provides you and your passengers with benefits in case of an accident that could rack up huge medical bills. It also covers expenses for accidental deaths and ambulance services. It is available at all rental locations of Enterprise.

Meanwhile, the Personal Effects Coverage, or PEC, protects the personal effects or privatelyowned items of the renter, additional drivers, or the renter’s immediate family members against risks of damage or loss. Please note, however, that these family members should also be permanent residents of the renter’s abode and be traveling together with the renter.

This type of car rental insurance is only available at Enterprise airport locations.

The benefits provided by PAI/PEC are additional daily fees to other insurance coverage that you or your passengers may already have. And according to Enterprise, the provisions, limitations, and exclusions of PAI/PEC are underwritten by either Empire Indemnity Insurance Company or Empire Fire And Marine Insurance Company, depending on where you rent the vehicle.

Just like the Damage Waiver, PAI and/or PEC are just optional, and the coverage may duplicate your existing coverage. Enterprise is not allowed to evaluate your coverage, so it’s still your responsibility to check whether the coverage of PAI/PEC already prevails in your existing insurance coverage.

The Enterprise rent a car insurance price for PAI/PEC averages between $5.13 and $13.00 per day.

3. Supplemental Liability Protection (SLP)

The Supplemental Liability Protection, or SLP, provides you and other authorized drivers with a combined single limit of up to $1 million for third-party liability claims.

If you wish to avail of this insurance policy, Enterprise will provide third-party liability protection up to the appropriate minimum limit of your financial responsibility.

Furthermore, the Empire Fire and Marine Insurance Company is going to cover the “excess third party liability insurance coverage” from the minimum limit of financial responsibility to as much as $1 million.

The provisions, limitations, and exclusions of SLP are underwritten by either Empire Indemnity Insurance Company or Empire Fire And Marine Insurance Company, depending on where you rent the vehicle.

An SLP is also an optional policy, and its coverage may duplicate your existing coverage. Perhaps due to a conflict of interest, Enterprise is not qualified to evaluate your coverage, so it’s still your responsibility to check whether the coverage of SLP overlaps with your existing insurance plan.

The average Enterprise car rental insurance price runs from $8.00 to $17.00 per day.

4. Roadside Assistance Protection

Aside from the car rental insurance policies, Enterprise Rent-A-Car also provides Roadside Assistance Protection (RAP). This allows the customers to waive their financial responsibilities for chargeable incidents like vehicle lockouts, lost keys, flat tires, and fuel outages, to name a few.

Moreover, you can add Roadside Assistance Protection in two ways. This could either be through online bookings at the chosen Enterprise branch, or you can just purchase it at a rental ticket, which you can avail of at any time of the day. This costs $3.99 per day.

Do take note that if you add this coverage in the middle of your rental contract, you must make sure that you return the car to its designated rental location. This is to have it inspected before the RAP is added.
